As a child growing up I wanted to please my parents. I wanted them to be proud of me, as most children do. It should be no different with our Heavenly Father... that we should long to please Him. Hebrews 11: 6 tells us we do that by accepting and receiving His promise by faith—by walking in faith.
Within our text we are given two secrets that are vital for making sure we are walking in faith and pleasing our Heavenly Father. First: ‘the words of our mouth’ are to be guarded. Proverbs 18:21 says “life and death are in the power of the tongue” The words that we say are important. They make a difference in our life. James 3:10 says “Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.” We are to separate ourselves onto God. If we are God’s, we should keep our mouth.
Second: the meditation of my heart, speaks about our thoughts. Did you know that it is impossible to sin without thinking about it first? It’s true, sin has to be conceived in the mind, and birthed. James tells us that we are tempted by our own desires. “Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” James 1:15 says it is very important what we allow our minds to entertain, for out of it comes life and death. This is why Paul told us to “think of these things” in Philippians 4:8. Of course under the New Covenant we are able (through Christ), to keep watch over our mouth and our thoughts.
Father, I want to return love back to You by living a life that is pleasing to You. Help me, like the Psalmist who learned two of the secret to have a successful walk. As I put my trust in You my faith will increase and my walk will be a walk of victory, in Christ.
