"He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned."
What does it mean to “believe”? And what is it that we must believe? There are different depths or degrees of belief. The kind of belief we need to be saved is a wholehearted belief. The word believe comes from the Greek PISTEUO (Pe-styu-o) and means to be committed to; and comes from the root word PEITHO (pi-tho) meaning to be waxed confident, obey, persuaded, convinced. Remember Abraham was fully persuaded. We’ve heard the saying, that if you truly believed that your house was on fire--you would do something. Not everyone would do the same thing, but you would surely do something. So to have this “saving kind of belief” we must be doing something. It would be life changing.
Many times we look at our life and we don’t like the way things are going. We don’t like the results that we are getting, but we continue doing things the same way. To get different results... we have to change the actions we've been doing to something else. We can't continue in the same way and expect to get different results... That's like trying to for a square block into a round opening. It's crazy.
I remember helping my dad on the farm. Many times I watched him fix things, when they broke down. He was always busy and there were always more things to do than the day would allow. So when I was helping out and I come across something that needed fixing, I would try to imitate what he did. When it wasn’t working, and I didn’t get the same results, I tried it a different way. I understood there was something I was missing. Something I wasn’t doing the same--and that's why I got different results than my dad did. Those lessons had helped me understand things in the spiritual world too. When I’m not receiving the results that the Word of God says I should, I have to back track and see what I was missing. I have to do something different to get the different results I want. I must be totally committed to His ways to get the same results.
Father, Just like you told Moses to build the tabernacle in the exact replica of what was in heaven... so must I conform to to your image as well. We are now Your dwelling place and must conform to Your ways. Father may I always be so committed to Your ways that through your word I am transformed into your image. In Jesus’ name. Amen
