The start of every New Year gives most of us a feeling we can have a new start at life—A do over, to get on the right track again. That’s not a bad thing, but what makes it so discouraging is how we go about it. It seems most of us are pessimists at heart, or at least that’s what comes easiest for us. Lists upon lists of different New Years resolutions of “We are going to quit” this or that seems to flood our conversation. All with good intentions, but most of them never produce the permanent change we desired.
Why is that? My guess is, it’s because we are focused on the wrong thing. “Don’t do this. Quit this. Give up that.” All the focus is on the bad that we want to give up. That’s carnal thinking. That’s how man sees things. That’s how man thinks. But God tells us not to lean on our own understanding and to think His thoughts, for they are much higher than our thoughts. This year, when making your resolutions, do it God’s way. Think His thoughts and thank Him for the wonderful, fabulous and marvelous work He has done in creating you.
In stead, be that optimistic person that He created and think only in agreement with His thoughts. Focus on those things and get better results. The Bible teaches us we are to seek God first... and it also tells us that when we think on spiritual things... the good things... we won’t give in to the bad things. Think about how wonderful and amazing He had created us. Our bodies are exposed to a world of death continually and yet on the average, it takes about 75 to 80 years for it to die... and that is mostly because it grows old and loses it’s strength. And that’s without modern medicine, because most countries don’t expose their bodies to all the harmful drugs that our country does. We are truly awesomely made. And that my soul knows very well.
Father, we are aware of Your goodness by the miraculous works You have done. I will praise You for You are worthy of all our praises and thanksgivings. There is NONE likened onto You Lord. You are above all, and all good. May we Praise Your name forever.
