"Do not be wise in your own eyes: Fear the LORD and depart from evil. It
will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones."
On the surface, worldly wisdom seems to makes sense, and is favored by
many—but the world thinks the deep things of God is foolishness. God warns us about trusting in our own self for our wisdom. What is right and acceptable today, was not proper when our parents were growing up. And the things my grandchildren think are okay, I would have never thought of doing at their age, or at all. For this reason alone, parents should spend time with their children and teach them the things of God.
This “fear” of the Lord is not in terror, it is respect, reverence, and in awe of our
Creator—the Creator of all things. He is God. We are told to depart from evil, but not in the sense that we must live righteous to become righteous—No,
God has dealt with sin, but there is a danger that follows from allowing sin in our
life. God loves us the same whether we have sin in our life or not. Remember, He died for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8) If we allow
sin in our life, it opens the door to Satan, and with it can bring more trouble
and sickness than what might normally come our way from living in a fallen
world. This is why the Scripture tells us that when we keep ourselves from sin,
it will bring health to your flesh, and strength to your bones. Did you
know your blood is made in your bones? And your flesh (skin) is the largest
organ of your body. Think about that in regards to your health.
Father, as wonderful as You have made us, we still need Your guidance and love. Thank You for the insight and wisdom that You give us, to live life at it’s fullest. You alone Lord know what is best for us, and our happiness can only be complete in You. Amen
