"...If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
It has always bothered me, and I wonder if others have noticed this too—That
here in the United States, there are “many” people who declare themselves to be
Christian’s. Some survey’s state that 90 some % of American’s say they are
Christians, yet only about 17 % of those claim to attend church on a regular basis. And of the 17 % when asked, most of those spend little, if any time in the Word of God. According to this verse, where does that leave them?
Obviously they are deceived in what Christianity really is. What puzzles
me is where are they getting their information about what a Christian is? Who is
telling them? It must be the churches—who
else could it be?
How can we “live” (abide in God’s Word,) without reading it? If I said
that I loved volleyball, and so join it, yet NEVER showed up for the
practice or the games—How much did I really love volleyball? I believe the church is not informing people of the truth. Salvation is a free gift, but we must hold onto it—We must keep it. As a child I played a game called “King on the Mountain”... Once king, others were always trying to pull you down... you had to fight to keep your status as king. In Luke 13:24 it says to enter through the narrow (strait) gate. The word “strait/narrow” is the Greek word STENOS (ste-nos) and means to stand, keep your place, by not hesitating or waivering. We can only do this by knowing God... knowing His Word (which is God). It is then that we are truly set free.
In America, our lives are so busy, and our priorities not in the proper order, and
we put our “eternal” future in the hands of one person—the pastor of our church. We can not have a relationship with God based on our pastor telling us about his relationship with God. Yes, we can become knowledgeable of God by the things he teaches—But we don’t know GOD personally unless we apply it to ourselves, unless we meditate in God’s Word. We know about Him, but we don’t KNOW HIM. Unless we take that knowledge and make it personal by abiding in His Word—Don’t be deceived, we can ONLY homestead one place. Where do you want your home to be?
thank You for Your word that says my citizenship is in Heaven with You and not
here. Thank You for the love of Your Word that You have put in my heart. I have
never experienced such joy as what I have found in Your Word. Thank You Lord.
