“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not
be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you
A commandment is a “must do” thing. A verse that comes to my mind
is Hebrews 11:6 that says we “must” believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” It’s a command. If we truly know the love God has for us—then we will believe Him, we will know that it’s His will to reward us, that He has provided for us, and far better than any earthly father would or could. We would be strong and of good courage. “If God is for us, who can stand against us?” Romans 8:31.
But why are these things commanded? I believe it’s because the true Christian walk goes beyond mere knowledge. We must commit to a deeper trust than just our understanding. We can understand something is true, but we also need to KNOW (experience) that it is true. This kind of “knowing” is an intimate, in the same way a husband knows his wife—Don’t be confused about what that means, it’s simply an “experiential knowledge”, (not a head knowledge)—it’s personal, (just you and God) experientially knowing Him—His promises are working in your life, it’s real—you live it. That is what passes all knowledge.
As Paul says in Ephesians 3:19 “to know the love of Christ which passes
knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” That is knowing God. When we know God in that way—we have truly found Him, and will be strong and of good courage. “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you
search for Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13 It takes time to know someone that well. It won’t happen over night. It will be a daily ‘want to’ in your life—a determination demonstrating each day you have truly chosen this way to live. It will be evident in your life. Won't you start walking that close to God today.
Father, thank You for being stern with us, we might not have sought out
the depth of Your love if You hadn’t. Give us the strength we need to go that
extra length to really know You. Thank you for Your faithfulness so we can be of
