Many times we get excited when hearing the Word of God and want to quick learn these things, much like cramming for a big test. We know that kind of learning never sticks with us--And we should know, that isn’t the way God’s Word works. Years ago I had bought a book to learn how to knit. I read the book, but until you actually have hands on experience of working it... I didn't have a good enough understanding of it to instruct someone else how to knit. That comes from experience, and it takes time to become good at it.
The part of our verse I want to focus on is, “the word of God is living”. It’s alive. We need to think about that. God’s Word reveals to each of us ONLY what we are able to take in. We can have revelation of something, but if we don’t meditate on it until we have a good understanding of it... (Just like the knitting), we’re going to remain in Level One Reader until we get it. Lucky for us there are many different subjects, and all of them start at Level One Readers--Different topics, but all starting with a Level One Reader. We might excel in one area, and fall behind in another. And because the Word of God is Alive... we can never exhaust the vastness of its knowledge. We never really graduate... we simply continue to mature and learn. Always becoming more like Jesus as we allow His Words to change us into His image. Jesus said in John 16:12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.” We need to prepare our hearts to receive the Word of God with readiness. And Jesus knows that we can not move to Reader Two, until we complete Reader One.
We can not become mature and our transformation does not come quickly. We need the slow steadiness of getting to KNOW Jesus... taking the time to learn of Him. And when we learn from Him, this is where we find rest for our souls. Matthew 11:29
Father, May our eyes be opened so we see the joy and peace you have given while we sit at Your feet and learn from You. That there is rest for our soul where our troubles are not burdensome to us, because we have put our trust in You. Thank You for great provisions You have made available to us all. In Jesus’ name Amen
